Thomas Tuchel has suggested Romelu Lukaku could start for Chelsea against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

Thomas Tuchel said: “Right now he is an important part of the squad next season. There are no players set to depart or improvements because of the situation. We signed a big player, we still have a big player. He didn’t come on because we had three subs and had to use one for Jorginho at half-time. He trained very well and maybe starts tomorrow.”

Wolves can still topple West Ham to finish seventh and secure a spot in next season’s Europa Conference League, but they face the top three in their final four matches. After tomorrow’s match at Stamford Bridge, Wolves host Manchester City and Norwich before finishing their campaign at Liverpool on May 22.

Thomas Tuchel said: “They had problems in the beginning and then they were very, very strong. They’ve struggled with results in the last weeks, everybody sees that. If you go into the statistics you see that is still difficult to create chances and bypass their defenders. For me, it is not possible to hurt them just by ball possession. We saw that in our first match. We need to be very aware of the moments where it is possible to accelerate the game. They are very well protected when they attack. We need a good mix of patience and we need to try to play a high rhythm.”
