Leicester City will weigh up the risk of involving Jamie Vardy against Tottenham at the weekend as manager Brendan Rodgers said it was not enough for him to merely be able to get through 90 minutes.

Brendan Rodgers said: “It’s not just about playing 90 minutes, you have to perform. “He might be ready to play 90 minutes, but if he’s not at the level, he will come off. It’s not just about the fitness, it’s about the performance. You have to perform well to play. For Jamie, it’s about giving him that chance from a fitness perspective to be able to perform to the highest level he can. He’s only been training a few days. I think he’s done amazing to get back. It’s ongoing. He’ll have to recover well now, and we’ll have to decide if it’s too much of a risk to involve him at the weekend, to start or to bring him into the game, or to keep him fresh for Thursday. But there are so many aspects to it. It’s not just about being fit to play 90 minutes. You have to be able to play and perform.”

Elsewhere, there is good news for City that Timothy Castagne has been given the all clear following a scan. A clash of heads led to a dizzy spell that prompted the Belgian to be withdrawn after just 20 minutes of the game. He was checked over at the King Power Stadium and further assessments on Friday showed he is fine.

Brendan Rodgers added: “We obviously had Timothy Castagne come off in the game. He clashed and had an issue with his eye. He has had a scan and everything is all clear, so that’s good. Everyone is fit and healthy.”
