Kalvin Phillips admits he was disappointed with how Leeds United played during their Monday night 0-0 draw away against Crystal Palace. In what was the England international’s first start in four months for the Whites, Phillips and Co were under plenty of pressure for lengthy spells, with Crystal Palace hammering on the Leeds United door in search of a goal.

Kalvin Phillips said: “It was a tough game. Personally, I don’t think the team played as well as they could do. Happy with a point but not really happy with the performance. We wanted to come here and win. Disappointed with the performance not getting the three points. I haven’t played since December, I was blowing. The little break didn’t help us. We haven’t lost in the last five games and hopefully we can keep it up.”

With Phillips having not started a game under Jesse Marsch, his last starting berth was handed to him by Marcelo Bielsa, when Leeds were playing a different system. Primarily operating as a lone midfielder under Bielsa, Phillips was partnered by Mateusz Klich in midfield, something which the England midfielder hopes help to keep Leeds in the Premier League.

Kalvin Phillips added: “It’s different. I like both ways. Me and Klich working together. The new formation’s good and hopefully we can keep it up. Every game is tough for us. You know what you get when you’re playing against Leeds.”
