Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers admits it would be an “absolute shame” if his former club Liverpool were denied the chance to clinch the Premier League title this season. Jurgen Klopp’s men are a whopping 25 points clear at the top of the table and on the verge of a first league title in 30 years, after narrowly missing out to Manchester City last term. But their celebrations had to be put on hold after the campaign was suspended until further notice due to the coronavirus pandemic. Rodgers, who has guided Leicester to third in the table, went close to winning the title with Liverpool in 2014 before they were eventually pipped by Man City, He discussed the current situation on television presenter Eamonn Holmes’ podcast Eamonn and the Gaffers.

Brendan Rodgers said “They (Liverpool) have clearly been consistently the best team. The level that they’ve been playing at, the quality – they’ve just been absolutely fantastic. So it would be an absolute shame if they don’t get the chance to to lift the title. They’ve been waiting so, so long – they’re deserving of it. But Jurgen will be like everyone, hoping that we can get back playing but obviously in a safe environment. It just wasn’t to be for us and of course you have moments where you think back to that season. We were so close, and it would have been brilliant for us to have done it. But it wasn’t to be so you just have to to move on.”

The Premier League remains committed to completing the season when it is safe to do so, though it is not clear when that will be. Any return to action is expected to be behind closed doors, with strict health and safety rules enforced. There are some concerns that the season may have to be cancelled, after that happened in France and Holland.
