Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard admits that people being late annoys him the most but is happy for the players to take charge of the fines.
Steven Gerrard said: “People being late. Yes [it does happen]. There is [a fine system], but I let the players dominate the majority of the fines, I think it’s important that they run their own dressing room. I don’t want to be one of these managers that’s pulling people in, fining people left, right, and centre. I think in this day and age, your preparation and what you put in, it should be on the money.”
Gerrard also discussed the best player he has played with, and it was no surprise that he named ex-Liverpool team-mate Luis Suarez. Villa have been linked with a sensational move for soon to be free agent Suarez, who Gerrard believes has matured since his playing days with the Uruguayan at Liverpool. Speaking on the type of character Suarez was in the dressing room whilst speaking to Neville on The Overlap,
Steven Gerrard outlined: “Look, there was a few incidents that were tough as a friend of Luis. I tried to be a friend and an advisor, I was a bit older than him and a bit more experienced. When he had a situation with Brendan Rodgers, I tried to be a bit of a between them, but there’s certain situations where you have to back away and let him and his people deal with it themselves. Not that I didn’t want to help but sometimes is bigger than it was. But the guy I know and the character I know is different to the incidents that he’s had, and you know, I’m sure he’s matured on the back of them experiences.”
