Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson is targeting signing younger players for the Eagles in the summer transfer window. The Eagles are looking set for another season of Premier League football, with three wins in a row prior to the suspension of professional football in England moving Palace on to 39 points and up to 11th place in the table. Palace are now targeting a strong end to the season when Premier League football returns, with the Eagles eyeing a place in the top ten and a possible push for a European spot. But ahead of the potential return of Premier League football and the summer transfer window, Hodgson has been outlining what he feels the Eagles need. And the Palace boss is keen to bring new blood in to try and lower the average age of his squad, which is currently the oldest in the league statistically this season.
Roy Hodgson said “We’ve set a very good platform now. We have a very strong base with lots of good players. But if we could find a way to add a few more younger ones to that squad, a few new faces, that would inject some new blood while keeping the nucleus of the squad then I’d be very confident next season of improving on the results of the last two and three seasons.”
In January, Palace only signed Cenk Tosun on loan from Everton for the first team squad, although he has now returned to his parent club after sustaining a serious knee injury in training with the Eagles. Palace tried to sign 19-year-old full-back Nathan Ferguson from West Bromwich Albion in the closing stages of the window, but the move broke down over a medical issue. The Eagles could, however, revive their interest this summer, with Palace chairman Steve Parish previously stating that the club remained confident a deal could be done.
