Andy Robertson has revealed Liverpool’s dressing room aren’t talking about the quadruple – and admits the Reds will have to overcome a “really tough” run-in if they are to reclaim the Premier League title. Jurgen Klopp’s side are still a point behind leaders Manchester City having twice fought back to earn a 2-2 draw at the Etihad on Sunday.
Andy Robertson said: “We can only focus on ourselves. I think we have got a really tough run-in, all games are tough in the Premier League especially when you get to the end bit. But we have some really tough games and we need to try win them, we need to be at our best, we need to be better than we were (on Sunday) and if we do that then let’s see where we end up. We just need to keep winning games. We had to do it (in 2019) and we have to do it this year. It’s obviously out of our hands, if they win all their games then it is their league but if they do drop points we need to be ready to pounce. Will we need win every game? Time will tell. You never know. We need to win as many games as it takes, it’s as simple as that. We wait to see what results happen, we need to keep dealing with each game as it comes.”
Liverpool, who have already won the League Cup, will look to book their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League when they entertain Benfica on Wednesday having won 3-1 in Portugal last week, and then face City again on Saturday in their FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. Asked if quadruple talk had been banned in the dressing room,
Andy Robertson said: “Look, we literally just talk about the next game. As it comes. You can’t look too far ahead, you think of the next game and that’s Benfica then we move on from there. Definitely no chat like that (about the quadruple) in our changing room. How do we deal with big game after big game? Just keep focusing on the next one. We are already focused on Benfica now. We have a lead but we need to get through. If we do that then we focus on the next one. We are still fighting on all fronts, we still have a lot of games to play and if we win hopefully it ends with silverware. I’m sure Sunday was a good game for the neutral, back and forward, up and down, obviously a tough game for both teams. The points tallies we’ve racked up in the last couple of years has been incredible but there can only be one winner so we need to keep fighting and see what happens.”
