Eric Dier spotlights the working attitude of Antonio Conte’s Spurs as the central defender insists that “comfort is the enemy”. In his most recent interview with Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur’s Dier had plenty of complimentary comments when questioned about Conte’s working style and how it has benefitted the Spurs dressing room.
Eric Dier said: “I think it is what the club needed, what the squad needed. Comfort is the enemy, he (Conte) has created an uncomfortable environment, and he is doing that more and more. It keeps you on your toes, everyone within the club, it keeps them on their toes. It pushes you”. It is easy to fall into that trap. In a club like this with an incredible set-up, training ground, and stadium, we need to try and push on as a club and as individuals within that to try and take us back to where we were a few years ago and past that”.
With Spurs aiming for the final Champions League position in the latter stages of the season, Conte’s intensity could, if Dier is to be believed, spur them on. When asked about how Conte has improved his individual game,
Eric Dier explained, “The way in which he pushes you, he is never satisfied, and he wants you to never be satisfied. He wants more from you and demands a lot. I find that a very enjoyable environment to work in. He demands a lot from you, but he gives everything of himself to you.”
Suppose Spurs are to cement themselves in the Champions League places rather than another season of Europa League or Europa Conference League football. In that case, Conte will be hoping the rest of his squad follows Dier’s willingness to give everything.
