Patrick Vieira says he’s not looking over his shoulder at the relegation places in the Premier League as he prepares for his Crystal Palace side to take on Chelsea this weekend. Speaking to the press on Friday afternoon, the Frenchman batted that speculation away,
Patrick Viera said: “We’re not worried. We know we need to turn draws into wins and when you look at the way we’ve been playing and the number of chances we’ve had we should score more goals to get more points. We are in a better place today than we were a couple of months ago. We knew we were going through that process and this is where we are. At the end of the day, what is important is to have a good performance to allow us to win football matches.”
One accusation put at Palace in recent weeks has been their failure to find the net more regularly despite the number of chances they create. Vieira has often called on his side to be more clinical with the opportunities they make and says this is the best way for them to climb the table.
Patrick Viera added: “We are in a process, everything that is happening is what we planned. We knew we were going to go through difficult periods and we had to be strong, that is what we are doing. We have to keep working well, keep fighting and turn good performances into a win. We have to score goals and win games. Scoring those goals are massively important. We create enough chances to score goals.”
The Eagles face a difficult challenge when they take on Chelsea tomorrow, however, with the Blues having conceded just 18 goals in the league all season. Thomas Tuchel recently guided his side to victory in the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi and will also contest the League Cup final against Liverpool at the end of the month.Asked his opinions on the German coach and his recent accomplishments,
Patrick Vieira said: “I think is a fantastic achievement as a manager. You make a judgement about what you win at the end of the season. Winning the Champions League and being world champions – it’s difficult to do better than that”
