Leicester City academy graduate Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall said that the team wanted to reinstall some ‘pride’ back in the team during the Premier League clash vs Liverpool. City travelled to Anfield this week looking for a much-improved performance from their previous outing when they lost 4-1 against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup. Brendan Rodgers’ side did fall to a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool thanks to a Diogo Jota brace, but a spirited performance in defeat means that ‘positives’ can be taken from the game ahead of the weekend’s clash vs West Ham
Kieran Dewsbury-Hall said: “We know it wasn’t good enough at the weekend and we needed a big response not just for ourselves but from the fans as well. We wanted to just get some pride back and show the fans how much we care and how much we want to do well and I felt like we did that. There were positives to take tonight, even though we’ve lost the game and we just need to take those positives into the weekend now and we need to try and get three points.”
City were backed by a travelling support of almost 3,000 at Anfield, with fans showing their appreciation for the effort on the full-time whistle. Dewsbury-Hall has said that support provides extra motivation to the squad to turn the form around.
Kieran Dewsbury-Hall said: “That means a lot to all of us here, it means a lot that they’ve come on a weeknight and shown the support that they did. It’s hard in tough situations and you do need the fans behind you at all times because that’s what steers you on and that’s what keeps you motivated and going, because you know that they’ll always be there and we’re going to try our hardest to turn our form so that they can start enjoying wins again and everyone’s happy.”
The game against Liverpool was Dewsbury-Hall’s seventh consecutive start in the Premier League, with the player quickly becoming a key man in the City line-up.
Kieran Dewsbury-Hall added: “That’s something that I’d hope would happen this season, that I would take my chance and take it. I’m on good form at the moment but it’s just about keeping my head down and working hard, I can’t afford to let up at the minute, especially for myself and the team. We know we’re in a bit of a tough period at the moment but we’ve got good enough players and good enough people at the club to turn that around and have a positive second half of the season, not just myself but for the whole club.”
