CHE Adams and manager Ralph Hasenhuttl heaped praise on captain James Ward-Prowse, after the England international provided two pinpoint assists to help his side steer past Spurs 3-2. Speaking after the game,

Che Adams said: “As soon as Prowsey gets into the wide areas, you know it is going to be quality. I was in the right place to put it in, I could see it all the way. So, it was up to me to direct it on target, and thankfully it went in.”

When asked if he felt a sense of redemption after spurning a gilt-edged chance in the first half, Adams admitted that the should have done better when one-on-one with Hugo Lloris after two minutes of action.

Che Adams added: “Definitely – in the first half I should have scored that one, but the ball came into the right area the second time and I managed to put it away.”

Praise for Ward-Prowse didn’t just stem from his teammate, with his boss Hasenhuttl also quick to laud his skipper. The 54-year-old also credited Elyounoussi and Adams for attacking the ball, rather than remaining static in a dangerous area.

Ralph Hasenhuttl said: “We were very often speaking about the situation that we have to score in this moment. The key is the ball, how he delivers it. But the key is also the run because when you park outside the box and watch the ball flying in then it is not dangerous. When you attack the gap, the defender on the second post has a problem and this was the reason why.”

Saints’ first ever victory at Tottenham’s new home lifts them up to 10th in the league table, with Hasenhuttl’s men plundering 28 points from 23 games. It is a quick turnaround for Saints, with a lunchtime kick-off away at Old Trafford to contend with on Saturday.
