Kalvin Phillips is targeting March as the month of his return to the Leeds United squad as he continues his recovery from hamstring surgery. The 25-year-old revealed in an interview that he is on course to return in March.
Kalvin Phillips said: “[The surgery] all went well. They said that I’m on track as well so that’s a good thing to hear. I felt there was something wrong, I’ve never had a hamstring injury before so I didn’t know exactly what it was. I tried again for I think 30 seconds and I knew that it wasn’t right to carry on playing.”
In his absence, Leeds have maintained a healthy distance between themselves and the relegation zone so their survival hopes would only be boosted by his return. Phillips spoke of just how hard he has found it to be forced to watch his beloved club from home rather than being able to help out on the pitch. Although, he did manage a joke about spending more time out of the squad on the back of the two wins against Burnley and West Ham.
Kalvin Phillips added: “It’s definitely been difficult watching the games when you’re at home and it’s tough when we’re losing games. We’ve actually gone on a little bit of a good run so I might have to get injured more often! But it’s definitely been difficult, especially with the timeframe of the injury and how long it is. I’ve never had an injury as long as this so I’ve just got to keep my head down and keep working hard.”
Upon his return to Premier League, Phillips’ first objective will be to help keep Leeds in the top flight while his second is likely to involve looking ahead to a busy winter period.
