Toti Gomes made a surprising debut appearance in Wolves’ 3-1 win over Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday. The 23-year-old was an unexpected name in Lage’s starting XI against the Saints after his recent return to the Midlands but he did not disappoint, featuring the entire 90 minutes.
Toti Gomes said: “It was an incredible feeling. I didn’t think it would happen this early, but it’s the result of a lot of work. I felt very comfortable. I got goose bumps when I took to the field. The stadium was full, it was an incredible feeling.”
He admitted to receiving a lot of support from everybody at the club since his return to WV1, especially from captain Conor Coady.
Toti Gomes said: “All my colleagues helped me a lot. I feel at home, the coach and the rest of the coaching staff have been fantastic. He’s a great coach and all the players have a huge affection for him. I have received a lot of messages [since his debut] but the one that touched me more was of captain Conor Coady who offered me a lot of positivity ahead of the game.”

Conor Coady said: “Fantastic. It was such a tough game for him to come in to. We’ve obviously lost Saiss, and he’s come in, he’s a left-footer, he’s been out on loan all season, but we’ve seen him training and he’s been quality. We’ve seen how strong he is on his one-v-one battles, but even on the ball, he’s so calm and I can’t explain how hard a game this was to come into.”
When quizzed about what is next for him, Toti admitted that he likes to “think step by step,” but is confident “with a lot of work, good things will come.”
