Manchester United attacking-midfielder Bruno Fernandes has paid credit to the club’s travelling army of away supporters after their disappointing 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday evening. Ahead of taking to social media, Fernandes, who sported the captain’s armband in the absence of Harry Maguire, who was named amongst the substitutes, admitted that he thought the Reds deserved more than the point they had to show for their efforts.

Bruno Fernandes  said “At the end, we don’t get our chances in the counters. We don’t do the last pass or the last run, it was not perfect and at the end we gave chances to them. They have a good team, they have quality up front, they have players who can score and at the end, they scored and drew the game. It’s a tough one to take because I think the game was under control. I don’t feel [the game switched] it at all. After the first goal, they started to press us a little bit more, but even then, we get our chances, we could still score again. You start losing balls, losing confidence, the game starts to get better for them and they start to get more space in between the lines, more space wider. I think the performance was better than the result. Overall, we deserved more, but the game is not about deserving, it’s about getting the three points.”

Despite leading 2-0, courtesy of a Fernandes brace, with a little over ten minutes left on the clock, United squandered their two-goal advantage, as goals from Jacob Ramsey and debutant Philippe Coutinho sealed a hard-earned point for Villa. Fernandes fired United into a sixth minute lead when his effort from distance was spilled by goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, before he lashed in his second midway through the second half, firing home an emphatic effort via the aid of the woodwork. However, Villa, inspired by youngster Ramsey, refused to throw the towel in, scoring twice in the space of four minutes to deny United their first away win since December 11. Despite the frustrations, Fernandes felt it was a good performance from United.
