Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has stated the Magpies must take their shock FA Cup defeat to Cambridge United on the chin. But after confirming Callum Wilson will be out injured for eight weeks, Howe said the club’s owners are well aware of the trouble Newcastle will be in if they can’t find a replacement this month. When asked about the owners,
Eddie Howe said: “They popped in. They were very supportive. I can’t thank them enough for that. This has to be a united effort, and that showed we are in this together. I think it was really beneficial for the players to be able to see that and hear that because this journey we’re going on currently and this fight we’re in to stay in this division is a united effort from everybody at the club.”
When asked about the result against the League One side,
Eddie Howe said: “We are desperately disappointed. We really prepared well for this game, and we played a very strong team. But ultimately, we found a goalkeeper in superb form and a team that defended for their lives, and we couldn’t break them down.”
United created 22 chances on the day but could not find a away past the minnows.
Eddie Howe said: ‘We did have some good moments, but we lacked that killer instinct that every team needs. Then, when you don’t put the game to bed, there’s always a chance you leave yourself open, and, unfortunately, one of those moments cost us the game.”
