Brendan Rodgers said: “To score four goals in any game of football is so difficult but to do it in an away game in Europe, it’s a real special achievement. All of his finishes were fantastic, really calm, really composed. In so many ways it was a great victory for us. To score four goals, come again from behind, you don’t want to make a habit of coming from behind but it really tells you everything about the spirit in the team and the mentality, that they’re never broken. We will keep going right to the very end. I said before it was a massive game for us in terms of this group stage. To get the win, to get to four points, and then with two home games coming up next, I felt it was decisive that we won tonight. The boys deserve a huge amount of credit. We dug ourselves out of a hole at 2-0 down, and showed our quality and resilience.”
Although happy with the final result, Rodgers was not best pleased with the first-half performance, particularly of his three central midfielders. In the second half, Boubakary Soumare, Youri Tielemans, and James Maddison all had a hand in a Daka goal, but had to be reminded to work harder.
Brendan Rodgers said: “The three guys you mentioned, in the second half they were superb. In the first half, it was not so good. It was all too nice. Everything was in front of their defensive line, we had nobody running, we had nobody penetrating. Against the ball our three midfield players weren’t doing enough. That’s what we spoke about at half-time. It doesn’t matter how you talented you are with the ball, you have to be much more difficult to play against. That’s where it starts. In the second half, we got the message through, the boys were brilliant, it was a really great win in the end.”
