After a difficult start to his Manchester United career, Paul Ince was having a great season for the red devils. He had narrowly lost out to Paul McGrath in the PFA players of the year award and he credited his revival to his senior Bryan Robson’s advice. Incidentally, Paul Ince’s revival was one of the reasons Robson was struggling to get into the side.
Paul Ince said “Robbo’s advised basically dropped the penny for me. He said if I spend half the match moaning at referees and kicking people, the team is playing with 10 men. Your concentration wavers. Robbo was something of a role model for me. I have admired the consistency of his performances and this is something I try to copy week in, week out. I think I have only been booked only three times in the league this year. You don’t become a gentle giant overnight. But I think I am recognizing the need to bite my lip sometimes and not get involved.”
