Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-Min has insisted that the Spurs players have not been affected by the uncertainty surrounding Harry Kane’s future. The South Korean scored the only goal in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Premier League Champions Manchester City on Sunday, a win that earned Nuno Espirito Santo his first three points as Spurs’ boss. Victory was of course unexpected, but Tottenham controlled the game from the outset, and put in a very professional performance to get their season off to the perfect start.
Heung-Min Son said: “Obviously we want to start well. With the fans finally, just an incredible performance. Everyone worked so hard to get these three points. Man City currently are the best team in the world. I think this means a lot for us for the start of the season. We did just a great job. We know Man City are a really good team. We prepared really well, we worked hard in preseason and we showed on the pitch. We did a great job, we did amazingly.”
England’s captain didn’t feature in the win as he is still working on his fitness after returning to Tottenham’s training ground five days late following his holiday in the Bahamas. Players can often be affected by a teammate wanting to leave, but Son insisted that the Tottenham squad have been incredibly professional, and would like Kane to return as soon as possible.
Heung-Min Son said: “We are all professional. We wanted to focus on this game. It doesn’t matter who’s involved and who’s not. Obviously Harry’s so, so important for us.”
Espirito Santo will take his new team to former club Wolves next Sunday and will be looking to make it two wins out of two in the league.
