Seamus Coleman believes Ben Godfrey could one day captain Everton. The current Toffees skipper has been impressed with the 23-year-old defender who joined the Blues from Norwich last summer and thinks centre-back is capable of wearing the armband. Godfrey became a fans favourite during the last campaign, with his touch-tackling and lung-busting runs drawing plenty of adoration from the Goodison Park faithful.
Seamus Coleman said: “Yeah I do see him as a leader in the future. Without a shadow of a doubt, I think he’s a fantastic player, he’s a fantastic professional, he’s got some amazing attributes. He’s already a leader, I can see that growing even at the start of this pre-season compared to last season. The way he played for us last season was outstanding, he was unlucky to miss out on England, it came a bit late for him. He can be captain one day at this football club or wherever he plays.”
Coleman and Godfrey have both been working hard in pre-season under new boss Rafa Benitez and are both in contention to kick off the new campaign against Southampton at home this Saturday.
