Harry Kane will reportedly miss the clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season. The Spurs forward will sit out the start of the 2021/22 campaign to recover from his exertions at the European Championship with England, according to The Telegraph. Kane featured in each of the Three Lions’ seven-game run to the final, where they lost on penalties to Italy, playing 649 minutes in total – including two sets of extra-time. Having suffered numerous injuries in recent years, the striker will be rested in order to build up his fitness fully before returning, which will certainly dent his club’s chances against City on 15 August – provided he is still at the north London outfit by then. Earlier this month Kane said he was looking forward to talking with the new figures at the club to sort out his future.
Harry Kane said: “Of course as a player you want to be wanted, you want to feel like you’re loved, which I do. I haven’t had the chance to talk to any of these people yet. I’m sure we’ll get to know each other after the tournament, have a phone call or two once I get a week or two of holiday. To get praise from big people from football is great, it gives you confidence, it gives you motivation so of course it’s nice to hear.”
