Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis has been linked with a loan move away from Villa Park this summer. The 23-year-old is said to be wanted by around nine second tier sides as manager Dean Smith can’t guarantee the striker regular minutes in the Premier League next season. Stoke City are one of several clubs chasing the signature of Davis and the head coach of the Potters, Michael O’Neill, has made no secret of the fact that he is an admirer of the attacker. Davis came off the bench in Villa’s 2-0 defat to Stoke on Saturday afternoon at the bet365 Stadium and saw his header nearly beat goalkeeper Joe Bursik in the second half. Despite revealing his interest, O’Neill said the club will have to play a waiting game to see if a loan switch materialises.
Michael O’Niell said: “He is an Aston Villa player and he came into the action today from the bench. I am sure that he is a player who is on the list of a lot of Championship clubs, and we would put ourselves within that category. We will just have to wait and see what materialises over the next few weeks.”
While fellow Villa striker Wesley received a red card for an aggressive altercation with Stoke’s Nick Powell in the 2-0 defeat, Davis is set to receive more minutes against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday afternoon, as Villa welcome Chris Hughton’s side for a pre-season friendly at Bodymoor Heath.
