David Moyes has admitted that it is an uphill battle for West Ham to qualify for the Champions League following the Hammers’ defeat against European rivals Everton on Sunday afternoon. West Ham have now lost three of their past four league matches and this untimely dip in form looks to have cost the club a shot at Champions League football, something which Moyes admitted after the match.

David Moyes said: “Our chances of the Champions League are looking slim but we’ll keep fighting. I had set my target and I knew where we had to go, and defeat might be costly for us but you never know in football, we might be saying something different in time.”

Despite not mustering a single shot on target West Ham had chances to win the match through Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen. Moyes pointed out that poor finishing was a recurring theme from his team, singling out the match last week as another example of this.

David Moyes said: “We had a lot of chances against Burnley the other night which we did not take and we should have taken more so maybe there was something in that that we are not taking as many opportunities as we should be at the moment.”

West Ham might be outsiders when it comes to a Champions League spot but the club remain in control of their own destiny when it comes to European football next season and Moyes is determined not to let that slip through his fingers.

David Moyes said: “We have to keep winning and try and do that, I don’t think we deserved to lose today so we have to try and pick it up and get the next win under our belt as soon as we can. If we qualify for Europe it will be an incredible achievement no matter what tournament we’re in.”
