Kelechi Iheanacho’s performance showed the importance of not letting your head drop, manager Brendan Rodgers believes, with the striker bouncing back from a shaky start to play a pivotal role in Leicester City’s win over Zorya Luhansk. Rodgers spoke after the game covering his thoughts on Iheanacho, Vardy’s fitness, Barnes, Wesley Fofana, and young players.
Brendan Rodgers said “Fofana continued to show why we took him here. It’s still very early on in his Leicester City career. You see all his talent. The boy just needs more experiences, more games. He’s going to have games where he doesn’t play so well. That’s all part of his development. It’s great for him to play alongside Jonny Evans. I thought Jonny was outstanding this evening. He showed his experience at European level and that’s great for Wesley to play with someone like him. We’re thinking that he (Vardy) will be available, but we just need to confirm that over the next couple of days. He’s responded really well to treatment and he’s been out on the grass, so we just need to see how he is. He’ll join in training tomorrow and we’ll assess it over the net couple of days. He gives everything, Kelechi. He’s a great player for our squad. You see when he comes into the game, he gives his all. He could have been a bit more precise with one or two passes; the one where James got in, he could have played it a little earlier, but he has the extra touch. And there were a couple of other moments. But he doesn’t get disappointed. He keeps going, and his finish was fantastic. He’s under pressure, spins out of it and shoots off his right foot. He gave everything to the game and deserved his goal.”
