Riccardo Calafioris
Arsenal are anxiously awaiting a fitness update on Riccardo Calafiori as they prepare for a pivotal Premier League match against Burnley. The full-back was substituted at half-time during Arsenal’s recent victory over West Ham, raising concerns about his availability for the upcoming fixture.
Mikel Arteta said: “No, we don’t know whether he’s going to be available now. We still have days ahead.”
Calafiori’s participation in open training on Thursday provided a glimmer of hope that his injury might not be severe, suggesting he could be fit to face Burnley. However, Arsenal fans have additional concerns as Sky Sports reported the absence of William Saliba, Martin Odegaard, and Bukayo Saka from the main training session. The trio were reportedly engaged in individual training, with Odegaard recently returning from injury to assist Leandro Trossard’s winning goal against West Ham. Saka, meanwhile, has been in fine form since recovering from an Achilles problem, notably scoring the decisive goal in the Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid.
Defender Ben White’s season appears to be over due to a knee injury sustained in the West Ham match, but Arteta hinted at the possibility of other players making a return.
Mikel Arteta added: “He [Jurrien Timber] has progressed a little bit in the last few days. We will try to get him back. He is a really important player for us and he’s doing everything he can to help the squad in any way possible.”
A victory against Burnley is crucial for Arsenal as they aim to solidify their position at the top of the Premier League table. Currently, the Gunners hold a two-point lead over Manchester City, with both teams having two games remaining. The outcome of this match could significantly influence the title race, making Calafiori’s potential return even more significant for Arsenal’s ambitions.
