Roberto De Zerbi
Roberto De Zerbi has been intensifying preparations for Tottenham Hotspur ahead of their crucial Premier League fixture against Leeds United. The match presents an opportunity for Spurs to extend their three-game unbeaten run and climb higher in the league standings. The Italian manager has emphasized the importance of maintaining humility and respect for their opponents, who have shown impressive form in recent matches.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “First of all, we go to play against one of the best teams in this moment. In the last five, six games they won against Manchester United, they drew in Bournemouth playing well, they won at home two times, Wolves and Burnley, and for that we have a big respect. We can’t think in a different way. We have to keep this mentality. We must remain humble – nothing changes.”
De Zerbi further highlighted the quality of Leeds United’s squad, mentioning key players like Calvert-Lewin, Okafor, Tanaka, and Ampadu, who are performing beyond expectations.
“They have a great organisation on the pitch, with the ball and without the ball. They have a good player, because Calvert-Lewin and Okafor, Tanaka and Ampadu are all very good players not to fight for relegation, but a higher level,” added Roberto De Zerbi.
In addition to team preparations, De Zerbi provided updates on individual players. Conor Gallagher, despite nursing a minor knee injury, has been actively participating in training sessions. The manager expressed satisfaction with Gallagher’s adaptation and performance since joining the club.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “I’m happy, because I think from the perspective of Conor, he came in January in a difficult situation. He’s an important player, the first level of the players. So, I’m happy to watch him in this condition, in this confidence, with these performances. I think, and I said after the game, when Gallagher plays well, his team plays with one player more than the opponent.”
Young talent Rio Kyerematen caught the eye during training, impressing the coaching staff with his agility and skill. Despite being named in the matchday squad five times, Kyerematen is yet to make his first-team debut. Similarly, academy players Luca Gunter and Harry Byrne showcased their potential in small-sided games, further highlighting the depth of talent within the club.
James Maddison’s recovery is also progressing well, with De Zerbi considering giving him playing time soon. The manager acknowledged Maddison’s quality and expressed eagerness to reintegrate him into the squad.
Roberto De Zerbi said: “I’m thinking about James Maddison, because I’m watching a top, top player, maybe he’s not ready yet to play, but as a physical condition, for the rhythm, for the intensity of the game, we are playing in the Premier League, the most difficult league in terms of intensity and rhythm, but as a player, it’s great.”
As Tottenham prepares for Monday night’s clash, De Zerbi remains focused on tactical decisions, player fitness, and maintaining the team’s competitive edge. The upcoming match promises to be a significant test for Spurs as they aim to solidify their position in the Premier League standings.
