Mikel Arteta Arsenal
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is navigating a challenging period as several key players are sidelined with injuries. The Gunners are missing multiple starters, which has impacted their performance during this crucial stage of the season. Arteta is hopeful for the return of these players as they approach pivotal matches.
Mikel Arteta said: “They are trying to do that, and we know how important availability is in this crucial period of the season. Obviously, we’ve been missing four or five starters now for weeks, which has an impact. So that’s why we need them back, that’s for sure.”
Declan Rice, a significant absence from Arsenal’s preparations for their clash against Sporting CP, is dealing with the strain of numerous matches. Arteta provided limited information regarding Rice’s return, emphasizing the need to monitor his condition closely.
Mikel Arteta said: “I don’t want to do that. We have to wait and see how he is tomorrow but obviously he wasn’t available to train. Well, he’s played a lot of games, and that’s part of the issue. But he’s going to try to do everything that he possibly can to be with us tomorrow. That’s for sure.”
Bukayo Saka, another vital player for Arsenal, is battling an Achilles issue. Although he missed training, Arteta confirmed that Saka has not experienced a setback and is progressing well.
Mikel Arteta stated: “It is his progression, but hopefully it’s going to be a matter of days and not weeks. But he has to see when he’s loading more, how he responds to that kind of progression.”
Jurrien Timber and Mikel Merino are also on the injury list. Timber’s return is anticipated soon, possibly against Sporting CP, while Merino is recovering from surgery and is out of his protective boot. Arteta is optimistic about Merino’s recovery, noting his determination to return sooner than expected.
Mikel Arteta commented: “He’s another one who is going to push every boundary. He’s out of his boot now, he’s doing quite a lot of exercises already. He’s reacted really well to the surgery, he’s got no pain. It’s more for the medical staff to go a bit further on that. But I’m sure there is a chance to make that period shorter. If there is a person who can do it, I’m sure that’s going to be Mikel again.”
Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures are crucial, and the potential return of these players could significantly bolster their squad. The Gunners are set to face Manchester City on April 19, with hopes that key players like Saka and Odegaard will be fit to contribute. As Arsenal continues to contend with injuries, Arteta’s management of player fitness and recovery remains vital.
