Liam Rosenior
Chelsea are gearing up for their FA Cup encounter against Championship side Wrexham this weekend, with manager Liam Rosenior providing crucial updates on the injury status of key players. Estevao Willian is nearing a return to action following a hamstring injury, while Pedro Neto is set to rejoin the squad after serving a suspension. However, the winger faces potential further disciplinary action due to an FA charge. As Chelsea prepare for the trip to the Racecourse Ground, Rosenior shared mixed news regarding player availability.
Liam Rosenior said: “I am delighted for him. Romeo will definitely play a part and he’ll play a huge part for the rest of the season. We all know his attributes. He’s been itching to play but we’ve tried to build him in the best possible way.”
Liam Rosenior added: “Estevao is back on the pitch, but he is not quite ready for this one. He just needs to clear a few more markers first, and we need to be careful with him given he’s had a hamstring injury. It will be a big boost to have him back with the group.”
Estevao Willian’s anticipated return could coincide with Chelsea’s upcoming match against PSG on Wednesday, March 11. His recovery is a significant boost for the team, as they navigate a challenging fixture schedule. Meanwhile, Jamie Gittens, who has also been sidelined with a hamstring injury since January, is on the verge of rejoining the squad.
Liam Rosenior stated: “Jamie Gittens is getting really close [to a return] and he had a really positive scan. We hope that he can be back with the group within the next seven days or so.”
Gittens’ potential return is targeted for Chelsea’s home game against Newcastle on Saturday, March 14. However, not all news from the treatment room is positive. Defender Levi Colwill, who sustained a serious knee injury during pre-season, remains out for the season. Despite this, Rosenior remains hopeful about Colwill’s progress.
Liam Rosenior commented: “Yes he could [be back before the end of the season] but it’s step by step and I don’t want to make promises that I can’t keep. At the moment, Levi’s in a really good place. He’s on the right track but I don’t want to put pressure on him.”
Colwill’s possible return is tentatively set for April or May, depending on his recovery trajectory. As Chelsea continue their FA Cup campaign, the return of key players like Estevao and Gittens will be crucial in bolstering the squad’s depth and performance.
