Manchester United are set to return to Premier League action against Everton at Goodison Park after a two-week hiatus. The Reds have been gearing up for this encounter following their 1-1 draw with West Ham on February 10. As the team prepares for the match, manager Michael Carrick has provided updates on the injury status of key players, including Patrick Dorgu, Matthijs de Ligt, and Mason Mount, who were absent from the previous fixture.
Michael Carrick said: “Mason [Mount] is getting closer, we have to be patient with him. We don’t want to rush anything, he is getting closer. De Ligt is working towards it, he is a little bit behind Mason [Mount].”
Carrick added: “Dorgu has been unavailable since the end of January with a hamstring injury and is still expected to be several weeks away from returning to the matchday squad for United.”
The absence of these players has been a concern for Manchester United as they aim to secure a strong position in the league. Mason Mount, who has been edging closer to a return, remains a key figure for the Reds, and his progress is being monitored closely. Meanwhile, Matthijs de Ligt is still in the recovery phase, trailing slightly behind Mount. Patrick Dorgu’s hamstring injury has kept him out since January, and his return is not anticipated for several more weeks.
Everton, on the other hand, will also face challenges with their squad. Jack Grealish is sidelined for the remainder of the season following foot surgery. However, the Toffees have received a boost with the return of Seamus Coleman. The defender, who has not played since Everton’s victory over United at Old Trafford in November, is set to feature in the upcoming fixture.
David Moyes said: “Seamus [Coleman] is fit and available as well [at right-back], so we’ve got people we can choose and we’ll move on from [O’Brien’s red card]. He got sent off and these things happen. We’ve got everybody fit, bar Jack Grealish.”
The match against Everton is crucial for Manchester United as they look to regain momentum in the league. The absence of key players poses a challenge, but the potential return of Mount and De Ligt in the near future could provide a significant boost. Meanwhile, Everton will be aiming to capitalize on their home advantage and the return of Coleman to strengthen their squad.
