Arsenal secured their place in the Carabao Cup final with a dramatic 97th-minute winner from Kai Havertz against his former club, Chelsea. The Gunners will now face either Manchester City or Newcastle at Wembley next month. This victory marks Arsenal’s first League Cup final appearance since 2018, as they continue to chase more silverware under Mikel Arteta’s leadership.
Jurrien Timber said: “We don’t have anything yet but we’ve put ourselves in an amazing position to win. That [winning] is the most important thing, it is not always possible to play your best. But I think this team does an amazing job of finding a way to win, no matter what. We have done it away at Chelsea, where it is not easy, and then today at home as well. So it is very deserved that we are going through and going to Wembley together.”
Timber continued: “It means a lot, but I think it does to the whole club, to the whole team. I think we appreciate these moments – me, myself as well. But obviously you want to win the final, so that is the next step. We appreciate going to the final. We don’t take it for granted. We have an amazing squad and these kinds of opportunities are not easy to have.”
The win against Chelsea was not only crucial for Arsenal’s ambitions this season but also broke a streak of four consecutive semi-final losses. Jurrien Timber expressed his optimism about the team’s prospects, emphasizing the importance of seizing such opportunities. Timber, who recently returned from a knee injury, praised Kai Havertz’s impact on the team, both on and off the pitch.
Timber added: “Just his presence within the team makes a big difference, but also on the pitch. I think everyone can see his amazing qualities and also everyone can see how happy everyone was for Kai.”
Arsenal’s journey to the final has been marked by resilience and determination, as highlighted by their recent performances. Despite not always being at their best, the Gunners have consistently found ways to secure victories. This ability to grind out results is a testament to the squad’s depth and Arteta’s tactical acumen.
As Arsenal prepare for the final, they remain strong contenders in both the Premier League and Champions League. The North London club is aiming for a successful season, with the Carabao Cup being one of the potential trophies in their sights. The upcoming final at Wembley presents an opportunity for Arsenal to add another piece of silverware to their cabinet and further solidify their status under Arteta’s guidance.
