Andoni Iraola
Bournemouth’s manager, Andoni Iraola, has called upon his team for one final push as they prepare for their fifth match in just 16 days. The Cherries have faced a hectic schedule since Christmas, and they will soon enjoy a longer break before traveling to Brighton for a Monday night fixture on January 19. However, Iraola is focused on ensuring his squad maintains their intensity for the upcoming match.
Andoni Iraola said: “Yes, I think it’s like for us, I told to the players we have to make after the Spurs game, two more days, keep the intensity level. But this is a big effort, big demands. One of the probably more demanding games in terms of physicality, of energy demands and I hope now we can do this last effort of this period.”
Iraola also addressed the challenges of squad rotation during this congested period. Cup games typically provide opportunities to rotate players, allowing some to rest while others gain valuable minutes. However, Iraola acknowledged the limited options available in certain positions, which complicates his selection process.
Andoni Iraola said: “I think we will have to see who is at his best energy wise and who is not today. After this we kind of recover the normality, if you want, one game a week and sometimes a midweek and I hope we have more cup games and this. But more or less goes back to normal after this one. But it’s true that right now also we don’t have a lot of options. So with the 14, 15 players we have available, it’s a matter of what ten start and what four or five finish the game and try to make a balance there and like this I will make the decision.”
The current fixture congestion has placed significant physical demands on the Bournemouth squad. Iraola’s strategic approach involves assessing each player’s energy levels to determine the best lineup for maintaining momentum and familiarity on the pitch. Despite the challenges, the manager remains optimistic about returning to a more regular schedule after this demanding period.
As Bournemouth prepares for their upcoming match, Iraola’s emphasis on balancing player rotation and energy management will be crucial in navigating the challenges posed by the intense fixture list. The Cherries will be looking to make the most of their available resources as they aim to finish this demanding stretch on a high note.
