Nottingham Forest showcased a commanding display against Tottenham Hotspur, securing a 3-0 victory at the City Ground. This win not only moved them five points clear of the relegation zone but also marked a significant improvement in their recent form. Callum Hudson-Odoi was the standout performer, scoring twice and ending an 18-game goal drought, while Ibrahim Sangare added a stunning strike to cap off a memorable afternoon.
Hudson-Odoi said: “Haha, I know what you’re going to ask me. It’s a mix of both! Cross/shot, and it went in perfectly, haha! As a forward, you want to be contributing as much as possible. It’s been hard for me recently, but I’m happy after that. Our mentality from the start was go, go, go, 100 per cent. From start to finish every single person was working their socks off. You can tell we wanted it. I’m delighted, it’s been a while. I’m happy to get a couple and hopefully it keeps flowing from now on. It was an outstanding performance from start to finish. You can see the connections are building more and more. We’re improving every time we step out on the pitch.”
Hudson-Odoi told Match of the Day: “To get a goal I’m buzzing with it and I’m happy for the result as well. The whole team performance, it was a collective performance and we’re really happy with the way things went. From minute one, the way we were playing you could tell we really wanted the game. We want to be getting wins like this and we want everybody to see how hard we’re working. We know where we are. We’re just trying to get as high as we can up the table. Games like this give us the motivation and energy to get as high as possible.”
The victory against Spurs was particularly significant for Nottingham Forest, as it followed a disappointing defeat to Everton the previous weekend. The team had shown resilience by bouncing back with a Europa League win over Utrecht in midweek, and their performance against Spurs was arguably their best under manager Sean Dyche since his appointment in October. Hudson-Odoi’s goals were crucial, with his second goal—a curling effort from a tight angle—sparking debate over whether it was intended as a shot or a cross.
Forest’s triumph over Spurs also highlighted their growing confidence and cohesion on the pitch. The team’s ability to secure such a decisive win against a formidable opponent like Tottenham is a testament to their improving form and determination to climb the Premier League table. As the season progresses, Nottingham Forest will aim to build on this momentum and continue their push away from the relegation zone.
