Ruben Amorim
Kobbie Mainoo’s future at Manchester United has become a hot topic as the January transfer window approaches. Despite being a promising talent, Mainoo has struggled for game time this season, having not started a Premier League match yet. His limited appearances have sparked speculation about a potential loan move in the New Year.
Ruben Amorim said: “Of course, I understand [why you ask], and my job is to answer it, but I’m trying to answer always the same thing, and you ask me always the same thing. I understand what you’re saying. You love Kobbie, he starts for England. But that doesn’t mean that I need to put Kobbie [in] when I feel that I shouldn’t put Kobbie [in], so it’s my decision.”
Amorim continued: “I see it. I just want to win, I try to put the players, I don’t look who it is, I don’t care about that, so I’m just trying to put the best players on the pitch. You have [Manuel] Ugarte that has played two games. One of them, Case[miro], was out, Bruno [Fernandes], he’s always fit, he’s the guy that is doing his position, so maybe it has to do with that.”
Mainoo’s situation has been a point of discussion, especially after he was left on the bench during Manchester United’s recent 1-1 draw with West Ham. The midfielder has only managed 33 minutes of play in the last five Premier League matches, and he hasn’t played more than 45 minutes in any game this season. Reports from The Athletic suggest that Mainoo is open to a loan move to gain more playing time.
The speculation gained traction when Sportbible shared quotes from Amorim’s press conference, where the manager was asked about potential offensive-minded players for the West Ham game. A reporter mentioned Mainoo, to which Amorim reportedly laughed. This interaction was highlighted in a post liked by Mainoo’s official Instagram account, adding fuel to the rumors of his possible departure on loan.
As Manchester United prepares to face Wolves in their upcoming Premier League fixture, all eyes will be on whether Mainoo will feature in the match at Molineux. With Sky Sports broadcasting at least 215 live Premier League games this season, fans will have ample opportunity to follow Mainoo’s journey, whether at United or elsewhere.
