Arsenal has officially announced the acquisition of Ecuadorian twins Edwin and Holger Quintero, set to join the club in 2027 upon turning 18. This strategic move underscores Arsenal’s commitment to tapping into the South American talent pool, enhancing their scouting and development efforts. The Gunners have entered into a collaborative agreement with Independiente del Valle to ensure the twins’ smooth transition to the Premier League.
Burbano said: “They’re going to give you spectacular plays. They’re like Ronaldinho. Holger can also play out wide, but prefers to be deployed in central areas.” He added: “Europe is getting two gems with unique natural abilities, but if they nurture their mental, psychological, and educational development, they will also be a sensation and bring us much joy. Why not consider that they could pursue a short degree? Why not start learning English now? Going to Europe at 18 with fluent English would be spectacular.”
Andrea Berta said: “Yes, obviously it’s never good news. We don’t know. We have to see tomorrow what he’s got. And Mosquera is the other one that is out. Obviously we have big Gabi and Willy out as well. So we have to adapt. It’s been a theme of this season. But when I look at the players, they haven’t been playing much.”
The Quintero twins have been described as the ‘new Ronaldinhos’ by their former coach Burbano, highlighting their potential to deliver dazzling performances reminiscent of the Brazilian legend. While Edwin and Holger will remain in Ecuador until 2027, there is a strong emphasis on their preparation for life in Europe, including learning English to aid their integration into the team and culture.
Arsenal’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, has been instrumental in orchestrating this deal, adding to his impressive track record of securing promising talents and extending key contracts since his appointment. The club’s focus on developing young prospects aligns with their long-term vision for sustained success.
As Arsenal prepares for their upcoming clash against Aston Villa, the club continues to navigate the challenges of player injuries and squad rotation. The addition of the Quintero twins represents a significant investment in the future, promising to enrich the team’s attacking options in the coming years.
