Antony played a crucial role in Real Betis’ opening group match, securing a 2-2 draw with a decisive goal at the back post. This performance has sparked widespread support from both current and former teammates. Meanwhile, Antony, along with Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia, was among those seeking a move away from Manchester United during the recent transfer window. Despite their intentions, Antony returned to La Liga late in the window, affecting his early days in Seville.
Antony shared on Instagram: “Right foot [eyes, laughing and heart emoji],” tagging Sancho and Malacia with an eye emoji next to Malacia’s name.
Ruben Amorim said: “He trained on his own after the holidays; it’s not the same as being with the group. I think this is his third game, and he’s been improving. Today he provided an assist and a goal, and as he gets more minutes, his performances will improve. The same goes for Abde. I saw him very tired after playing a high-level match, but he’s another player who hasn’t been playing for four months. It’s normal for players who have layoffs or long-term injuries; it takes them a while to get back to their best.”
Amorim added: “Jason [Wilcox], [chief executive] Omar Berrada and the club have a number for these players. If they don’t reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that. Some players have to find a new place so we have more space in the team and other players clearly show they want a new challenge and want new teams. We are just allowing these players to have time to think and to decide. I understand the clubs are waiting for the last minute but they can have a surprise. I’m ready to receive the players.”
At the end of August, Amorim continued: “I think again, I know that is not a good thing to have players in this situation but it’s clear they want to play in a different club and that is clear. So we try to arrange everything for both parts to be happy, so I have to try to imagine to have the training with the guys that I think are going to be the future and the other guys are training and preparing for the next chapter. When the window is closed, it’s a different history, when the window is closed, we have to receive the players and in a new life, anything can happen.”
Antony’s transition back to La Liga has been a focal point in his career, as he strives to make his mark in Seville. The Brazilian’s performance and camaraderie with his teammates, as seen in his social media interactions, highlight his positive influence on and off the pitch. Meanwhile, Manchester United faced a challenging transfer window, with several players expressing their desire to leave. Ruben Amorim’s comments reflect the club’s strategy to manage these situations, balancing player aspirations with team needs. As the transfer window closed, United prepared to integrate those who stayed, setting the stage for a new chapter in their careers.
