James Maryniak, Everton’s chief financial officer, will be departing the club next month after playing a pivotal role in stabilizing the club’s finances during a turbulent period. Appointed initially on an interim basis following a significant boardroom exodus in the summer of 2023, Maryniak’s contributions have been instrumental in setting the foundation for the club’s recent takeover by the Friedkin Group and its move to a new stadium.
James Maryniak said: “I leave my time at Everton with an overwhelming sense of pride. It has been a privilege to be a part of a close-knit management team that has fought so hard for this club and the decision to move on from Everton has been one of the most difficult of my life.”
He continued: “However, with financial stability restored, and the new ownership fully transitioned into their role as custodians of this great club, the time is now right for me to spend some quality time with my young family before embarking on my next career move.”
Maryniak added: “Looking forward, the future is extremely bright for Everton. I wish The Friedkin Group, Angus Kinnear (the club’s new CEO), the management team and all colleagues nothing but the very best for the future and I have every confidence that exciting times are ahead for this special football club.”
Maryniak’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter for Everton, as he was a key figure in guiding the club through financial challenges and ensuring a smooth transition to new ownership. His leadership was crucial during a period when Moshiri and Kenwright remained at the helm, and he temporarily assumed many responsibilities following the departure of other senior figures.
Under his stewardship, Everton navigated through to the December takeover by the Friedkin Group, setting the stage for a promising new era both on and off the pitch. As the club embarks on its journey at the new stadium on the Liverpool waterfront, Maryniak’s exit is seen as timely, allowing him to focus on personal endeavors while leaving the club in a position of strength.
Maryniak’s contributions to Everton’s financial stability and his role in the club’s recent developments have been widely recognized and appreciated. His departure is part of a broader transition phase for Everton, as the club looks to build on the foundation he helped establish.
