Leeds United Fans
Leeds United have been linked with Slavia Prague’s defender El Hadji Malick Diouf, but recent comments from Slavia’s club president suggest that these rumors are unfounded. Despite interest from other clubs, it appears Leeds are not in the market for another high-cost left-back following recent signings and contract renewals.
Jaroslav Tvrdik said: “I am not convinced at all, although there is a lot of interest in him… But we have not reached an agreement.” Addressing the idea that West Ham United had agreed a fee for Diouf, Tvrdik outlined: “There was a misunderstanding. There was talk of an offer that we should have rejected, but that information is false. There were two offers on the table, but neither of them exceeded €20million (£17.2m) in the basic transfer price. We have been saying for a long time that the price for Diouf will be just over €20m. And we do not have such an offer yet.”
Tvrdik’s comments highlight the ongoing interest in Diouf but clarify that no concrete offers meeting Slavia’s valuation have been made. This effectively rules out Leeds United, who have already secured Gabriel Gudmundsson from Lille and renewed Sam Byram’s contract. These moves make it improbable for manager Daniel Farke to seek another costly addition in the left-back position.
**Manchester United’s Pre-Season Tradition Changes Ahead of Leeds Friendly**
In other news, Manchester United are reportedly ending their tradition of presenting gifts to opposition clubs before pre-season friendlies. This change will take effect starting with their match against Leeds United in Stockholm on July 19. The two clubs, both with significant fanbases in Scandinavia, last faced off in Oslo in 2023, where Manchester United presented a commemorative pennant.
While the tradition of gifting is set to end, there are discussions about hosting a drinks reception with Leeds officials instead. This shift indicates a new approach to fostering relations between the clubs during pre-season.
**Leeds United’s Striker Situation and Wilson’s Premier League Ambitions**
Leeds United’s search for a marquee striker continues, with the club currently having several centre-forwards, including Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood, who have returned from loan spells but are expected to be sold. Mateo Joseph is also seeking more game time, adding to the uncertainty in the striker department.
Wilson said: “I mean, obviously, I have ambitions,” he said when asked about prolonging his stay in the top flight. “I’m close to getting 100 [Premier League] goals and that’s something I’d like to achieve. I still feel fit and hungry.”
Wilson, who has an injury-prone history, is keen on reaching the milestone of 100 Premier League goals, having scored 88 from 239 matches. Despite his ambitions, his recent performance and injury record make him an unlikely target for Leeds United, who are focusing on acquiring a high-profile striker to bolster their attacking options.
