Tyler Dibling
Southampton’s young talent, Dibling, remained focused on his development despite swirling transfer rumors and a challenging season for the club. The 19-year-old addressed speculation regarding a hefty £100 million price tag that had become a source of amusement at the training ground. Despite the buzz, Dibling emphasized his commitment to improving his game and contributing to the team’s efforts.
Dibling said: “I try not to think about it and just try and I go in to train every day and work hard and train the best I can. I have been here since I was eight. It is such a great club and I am working to do big things with them. There’s a few nicknames going around but it is all jokes. Nobody takes it seriously. It’s just a number, it’s all fun. Rambo loves it, to be fair. I’ll miss a shot in training and he’ll just go 90 million or 80 million as it goes down. It’s all good fun, I’m just trying to practice every day and get better.”
Southampton, already relegated from the Premier League, faced a tough season with multiple managerial changes. Dibling made his 39th senior appearance in a recent 1-1 draw against West Ham, a match where the team conceded a late equalizer. Reflecting on the game, Dibling acknowledged a missed opportunity that could have secured a victory.
Dibling insisted: “It’s a good point but my chance, I should have scored. We had loads of chances but just couldn’t put them away.”
Interim manager Simon Rusk, previously the club’s under-21s manager, took charge following the departures of Russell Martin and Ivan Juric. Dibling appreciated the different coaching styles, noting the blend of approaches under Rusk’s leadership.
Dibling explained: “I think it’s a merging of the two styles now. Simon lets us play free. It’s bringing together the good things we learned under Russell and under Ivan and just letting us play and see what happens. Obviously, nobody wants to be the worst team in the history of the league, so definitely that’s the target. I don’t want to be. None of the squad wants to be so that’s what we are trying to do, get a couple more points so we don’t have that above our heads.”
As Southampton prepared for their return to the Championship, the club aimed to rebuild and strengthen the squad over the summer. Dibling’s resolve and dedication to his development remained a positive sign for the club’s future.
