Chelsea loanee Armando Broja, who is currently playing for Everton, was stretchered off during their 2-0 win over Peterborough United in the FA Cup. The Albanian striker was left requiring oxygen after a challenge from Emmanuel Fernandez. This incident led to a seven-minute stoppage as he required medical treatment before being stretchered off the pitch for scans. This is the latest injury setback for the 23-year-old, who had to miss the start of his loan spell with Everton due to a long-term Achilles injury.
Everton’s caretaker manager Leighton Baines said “Obviously, it looked bad. He went off to the other side of the pitch. We weren’t sure if he’d go to hospital, or not, but he hasn’t. We don’t know the extent of it at the moment, other than it’s a lower-leg injury. He hasn’t been taken to hospital, so I’ve taken that as a good sign.”
Broja was also a doubt for the match against the League One side on Thursday night after he was forced off inside 30 minutes of their 1-0 defeat away at AFC Bournemouth. This disappointment on the south coast turned out to be Sean Dyche’s final game in charge as the 53-year-old was dismissed hours before their FA Cup campaign kicked off.
In 2022, Broja suffered a cruciate ligament injury that forced him to miss almost a full calendar year of action. This was followed by his Achilles problem which led to him missing 15 matches.
