Arsenal reportedly had their eyes on Brentford’s star player Bryan Mbeumo for a summer transfer. Mbeumo had been in exceptional form this season, scoring 13 goals in 20 Premier League matches. Only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland had outscored him. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s current top scorer was Kai Havertz with seven goals. The Gunners were keen to strengthen their attacking options. Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, had previously hinted that they were ready to spend big in the January transfer window if an extraordinary opportunity presented itself. This was particularly relevant after Bukayo Saka’s hamstring injury.
Mikel Arteta said “We have many, many options to do that.”
Mbeumo’s contract with Brentford was set to run until 2026. Brentford’s manager, Thomas Frank, had recently asserted that the player would not be leaving in the current month, according to reports from the Mirror.
When asked about the rumors surrounding Mbeumo’s future,
Thomas Frank said “In January? I would say good luck. We love Bryan. He loves playing here.”
Frank further elaborated on Mbeumo’s importance to the team. “He was our biggest miss for four months last year, even with Toney out,” Frank said. “He was our key player and has added another layer this season with five goals in six games. That’s incredible and he’s creating chances. He’s a top player.”
Frank also expressed his belief in Mbeumo’s potential for playing in a bigger club. “I’m convinced he will play for a bigger club. I’d buy him if I was at a bigger club! We convinced him to stay and he’s very happy. All our players might need to leave us one day but a lot of them are happy because we have a top environment, with good people. We push each other.”
