After Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Brentford, where Marc Cucurella was shown a second yellow card that will see him miss the next league match against Everton, he took to social media with a brief comment on the situation.
Cucurella said “We go again.”
Following the match, Enzo Maresca, who was asked about the sending-off incident despite not witnessing it, shared his feelings on Cucurella’s performance during the game and addressed concerns about any discipline issues within the team.
Enzo Maresca said “When the final whistle [was blown], I was with coaching staff, hugging them and celebrating so I did not see nothing. I don’t know. Cucurella was top on the ball and off the ball, together with the other 10, they were fantastic. We are happy and delighted with Marc’s performance tonight.”
When asked if Chelsea had a discipline problem, Maresca commented on the need for improvement in managing certain situations but also expressed understanding that yellow cards can sometimes occur during games. He added further perspective on Chelsea’s approach to managing match situations.
Enzo Maresca said “No, no. I’ve said many times we can do many things better; the way we attack and the way we defend but also the way we need to manage some moments. This is probably one of the moments we can improve but overall, with the spirit of the team, we know that sometimes you can receive some yellow cards. Probably the second one is not the correct one, or the correct thing to do, but there are things that we need to improve.”
