Mark Clattenburg breaks silence on Man City’s controversial winner against Wolves

VAR NO GOAL

In a recent Premier League match, Manchester City secured a controversial 2-1 victory against Wolves, thanks to a late header from John Stones. Initially disallowed due to Bernardo Silva being deemed offside and interfering with Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa, the decision to award the goal was met with mixed reactions. Notably, former City players Micah Richards and Daniel Sturridge expressed their belief that Silva had “affected the play.” Despite this controversy, former referee Mark Clattenburg supported the decision made by referee Chris Kavanagh.

Mark Clattenburg said, “Firstly, was Silva blocking Sa’s line of vision? Again, the answer is no, as the header goes straight through the goalkeeper. It was telling that there were no protests from Sa or any Wolves players. The referee overturned his original decision and a goal was awarded.”
