Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has called Manchester United “‘FC Hollywood”
Whilst sharing his belief that Kobbie Mainoo should not be a regular starter. The Reds have endured a difficult start to the season after losing two of their opening three matches. Erik ten Hag ‘s side have lost their last two fixtures, a 2-1 defeat at Brighton and a 3-0 loss at home to Liverpool on Sunday. One player who has struggled in particular is Casemiro with the Brazilian at fault for Liverpool’s first two goals. It comes after a difficult 2023/24 campaign in which the 32-year-old struggled badly with form and fitness.
Souness previously shared doubts over Casemiro’s signing at United in 2022 , calling the Brazilian “a steady Eddie” rather than someone who could make much difference at Old Trafford . And the Scotsman has now had his say on the Brazilian’s struggles and Mainoo.
Graeme Souness said “I have to say this as well, Mainoo might be a player but it’s not me being critical of Man United, someone comes on the scene and there the new George Best, the new Bobby Charlton, the new Denis Law. It’s FC Hollywood. That’s what they called Bayern Munich and that’s what Man United are. If anyone shows anything, they are put into superstardom category way before they even become a good player. Mainoo right now should be a player who is flitting in and out of a good team, not being asked to stand up and play against the very best teams. He might be a good player one day but he’s certainly not the go-to man at United as they’re making out in midfield.”
