Ole Solskjaer may lose his job if Liverpool beat them heavily at Old Trafford
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fears that a heavy defeat in Manchester United’s next game at home to bitter rivals Liverpool could put his job in jeopardy. Solskjaer has described it as the ‘perfect game’ for United after the international break following the club’s worst start to a season in 30 years.
However, it is understood the 46-year-old is concerned that executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will come under huge pressure to sack him if United lose heavily to table-topping Liverpool at Old Trafford a week on Sunday.
Manchester City are dealing with defensive issues
A high line lets City control possession and facilitates their attacking might but it always gives opponents a chance.Vincent Kompany played eight of the final 11 games of the league campaign. At the time, the tendency was to regard that as an appropriate farewell for a long-term club captain, and to celebrate how his calmness and authority helped steady any possible nerves among the rest of the squad. While that wasn’t untrue, it perhaps was the case that Guardiola had lost faith in John Stones and Otamendi.
The injuries to Aymeric Laporte and, to a lesser extent, Stones, have highlighted the folly of the failure to replace Kompany. City look susceptible in a way they didn’t even during their blip last winter. An issue of philosophical strategy has been exacerbated by questionable recruitment.
“Racism” just doesn’t seem to go away from soccer
Aston Villa strongly condemned their own fans after racist chants were heard about their players on Saturday. A number of Villa supporters were filmed singing about Zimbabwe international Marvelous Nakamba and Scotland international John McGinn during the 5-1 win over Norwich.
Racist stereotypes are never acceptable by premier league museum fans. Hiding so-called support behind such words are reprehensible and condemned by all decent premier league supporters.
Arsene Wenger admits rejecting offers to coach Premier League clubs
Arsene Wenger revealed he turned down a number of offers to coach in the Premier League because of his bond with Arsenal. The 69-year-old has stayed away from management since leaving the Gunners at the end of the 2017-18 season after 22 years in charge of the London club.
Despite being without a coaching role for the past 17 months, Wenger says he has had a number of offers to take charge of English top-flight teams, but he turned them down because of the connection to his former club. “I decided to move out of the Premier League because I am too linked with Arsenal. I had opportunities to work in England but I turned them down. I don’t want to tell you [which clubs] because there are people in charge and it would unfair to them.”
Everton boss Marco Silva laughs off suggestion he should be worried
Everton manager didn’t shirk his responsibilities after losing to Burnley, applauding the away fans, many of whom have already lost faith and let him know it. Silva gives the impression all is right in his football world, he has everything under control and a revival isn’t just around the corner, it’s inevitable.
“Of course we’re not worried,” he said, seemingly surprised the question is even asked. It’s not good to be worried. I have the same confidence now I had at the beginning of the season, the same confidence about our quality and what we’re doing every single day.
But it’s hard to share Silva’s confidence after watching an uninspiring Everton fail to cash in on their first half supremacy before offering little once Jeff Hendrick struck 16 minutes after Seamus Coleman’s dismissal for two bookable offences
