Wolves will reportedly demand close to a club-record fee for Ruben Neves this summer. It is further suggested that Barcelona are interested in the midfielder, however the Spanish giants are “not willing” to meet Wolves’ valuation. Wolves current record transfer sale is the combined £45million deal for Diogo Jota in 2020, which included the arrival of Ki-Jana Hoever. Though Neves has been vocal about his affection for Wolves, the midfielder gave an open-ended response when recently asked about his future.
Ruben Neves said: “The only thing I can tell you at the moment is that everyone knows what football is about, what our lives are about. Our career is really short and we need to take the opportunities we have. All of us have dreams and we need to live those dreams in a small space of time. Let’s see what happens, I cannot say too much about it.”
Wolves fans made their feelings clear with chants calling for Neves to stay during the club’s final home game of the season against Norwich. After the game, Bruno Lage said he agreed with the supporters and hopes the midfielder will remain at Molineux.
Bruno Lage said: “It’s so hard to find these top men and top players and Ruben is one of them. He worked hard since the first day and did a good season with us. But we know about the market and when these kinds of players are in a good way, big clubs can appear and pay. The club lost some players before and you never know what can happen. Last year it was the same, everyone talked about Ruben and nothing appeared. I want the best for Ruben and I want the best for the club. If Ruben stays, I will be happy.”
