Richarlison has been fined by Everton for picking up a suspension for five bookings, Rafa Benitez has strongly suggested. The Brazilian will miss this weekend’s trip to Brentford after being cautioned in the defeat to Manchester City last weekend. Benitez said ‘normal’ procedures have taken place since Richarlison was hit with the one-match ban, which is believed to mean the 24-year-old has been fined, as per club rules.
Rafa Benitez said: “I think that everybody knows what the process is in a football team. You have some proceedings, normal things, he knows, he realised he has made a mistake. But the main thing for me is to clear his mind and he has to be ready to be an important player for us in the next games.”
Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton are looking to kick on and another crucial summer is underway at Goodison Park. Marcel Brands will be a busy man as he looks to strengthen Everton’s squad in the transfer window. The main window is closed, but deals with EFL clubs can still be done until October 16. Richarlison, who was unaware he had previously picked up four bookings prior to the match, will be eligible to face Liverpool at Goodison Park next Wednesday and Benitez wants to see more from the £35m man.
Rafa Benitez added: “Without Dominic [Calvert-Lewin] he is a key player for us and he has to be one of the best players during the season. He did well last year but he can do better because he has the potential to do better.”
Richarlison has scored twice in eight league appearances this term.
