Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers held a meeting with the club’s senior players to put to bed the speculation he might leave for Manchester United. City’s leadership group is formed of six players, skipper Kasper Schmeichel, vice-captain Jonny Evans, plus Jamie Vardy, Marc Albrighton, Youri Tielemans, and James Maddison, and they represent the squad in club matters.
Brendan Rodgers said: “I spoke to the leadership group. I was aware that over the past few weeks… I didn’t read so much, I don’t, but I heard little bits and pieces. It stabilises everything. You (the media) know how this gossip arises, and normally I don’t even think about it, but I understand that it may have a bearing for other people. It was a case of stabilising that by speaking to our senior guys. They know my commitment to them, they know my commitment to the club, and also to us becoming a better team.”
United finally moved on from Solskjaer after the Red Devils picked up just four points from a possible 21, but they still sit four places and two points above City in the table.
