Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has dismissed the continued speculation over him and the Manchester United job as “not real” as he branded a question on the matter as “disrespectful”.
Brendan Rodgers said: “Firstly, it’s really disrespectful for you to ask the question when you have a manager in place, a good manager and a good man, who’s working at the club,” Rodgers said at his press conference on Thursday afternoon. Secondly, I can’t really comment on it because it’s something that’s not real. I’m here as the Leicester City manager. I’m proud to be here, privileged to be here and fully committed to the players, the club, the ownership. That’s about it really. All the other noise around that is something we can’t control. (The noise) doesn’t frustrate me personally. My focus is always on the next game, so the only club I’m thinking about is Chelsea and getting ready for that. It’s frustrating for supporters and my players. If anyone is to read anything that’s out there, that can destabilise, but it’s something that from a personal perspective, it’s something that it’s in the modern game and much more so now, but something I have no focus on whatsoever.”
The manager also set out what he gets at City that makes him so happy to be at the club, where he has a contract until 2025.
Brendan Rodgers added: “My own commitment, I’ve said any time there is a link, I’ve got a huge respect for Khun Top and the protection of his father’s legacy and what he brings. My relationship with him, (chief executive) Susan Whelan, (director of football) Jon Rudkin and all the other staff here, we’re very much together and we’re looking to push the club on. I feel I’m in the right place at the right time in the right environment and with the right people. When you have that feeling every day and you have that ambition to maximise what you can from the club, that gives me a joy and a happiness to be here. I work with a calibre of players we’re trying to rinse everything out of and maximise their potential. All of that combined, I’m very happy here.”
