What are your overriding emotions after that and what have you said to the players?
It’s frustrating, disappointed. The expectation for this game were good. We wanted to perform well to try and do better. Frustrating, disappointing afternoon for us.
The fans made their feelings clear at half-time, full-time and one of your substitutions, are you confident you will be given the time to get this right?
I’m only thinking about the next training session. There are no words that are going to solve this situation. The booing and disappointment of the fans is understandable. When they don’t see the team they expect, the team that should play, and I truly believe that we are better than what we showed today, they are going to boo. They are going to boo. It’s up to us to change the mood.
Harry Kane struggled again, what do you think needs to change for him to get back to his best?
We have to improve all of us. It’s not about individuals. As a team we must do much better. It’s not only our offensive game. We are vulnerable in defence, we concede. We keep the ball, yes, but we had ten shots, none on goal. We have to be more accurate. The final pass is not always the right line. It’s behind or in front. We have to improve, do much better. It sounds absurd but the only solution is we try to stick together and work together.
Can you explain your lack of shots on goal?
It’s hard to explain. We are better than we showed today. We should do better in certain situations. I truly believe we have the talent to do it but when things don’t work out, the confidence is one of the first things to go. We have to regain it, not by words but by actions. And hopefully we can do better on Thursday and prepare for the next one against Everton.
What’s going wrong? Your message not getting through? Or you message just wrong?
Maybe it’s none of them. You can have the right message, the right idea and things don’t go [to plan]. It’s not because of the message or understanding of the message. It’s the game of football. We started well, we had the ball and didn’t hurt too much. We had a goal that was not [allowed]. We conceded in a situation that we knew could happen and lost the momentum. Second half, we go again with the message but it’s about what happens in the pitch and I believe we can do better and I trust these players. I will support them and stick with them until the end but in a humble way I ask the fans to keep helping us and supporting us so we change.
