Thoughts on the performance today?
Very proud of the performance and the team. I think we performed very well and we absolutely hammered Leicester in the first half and that’s a team that finished fifth last year. We pressed aggressively, we won the ball, we dominated in possession and we created chances. They had nothing but a lucky bunch of brilliance. Second half, we continued and got the equaliser and went for the win, and the only thing I was disappointed with was their second goal.
Fixtures at home haven’t been easy. Are you disappointed home results haven’t been great as of late?
100% agree. I think if you look at the three games where we lost at home; Leicester we should have easily won this game and Chelsea. Brighton should have been a draw, if not a win. I think it’s just the fine margins in football.
Tielemans’ goal was out of this world, but it was similar to Chilwell’s on the edge of the box with someone needing to be there. What did you think?
The way we organised was fine, we want to be organised like that. If you want to avoid that situation, there are a lot of other situations you don’t avoid. Given that situation, there are not many times you put in the top corner.
You’ve got such a small squad, so injuries to players like Vitaly [Janelt], Shandon [Baptiste] and Yoane [Wissa]. They must have quite an impact if you want to change a situation late on?
It’s no secret we have the smallest budget and the most fragile to injuries to key players, but I trust my squad and I trust my players. If we keep putting in performances like this, we will be fine.
Nine games in – there haven’t been any poor or below-par performances yet?
I think our performances have been spot on. If you look at the overall situations and performances throughout, we shouldn’t have lost a game in the Premier League which is impressive. I can say that no one will argue against that which is crazy, and that tells you everything about our performances. The way we dominated Leicester in the first half, that is extremely impressive I must say.
You had a chat with Kasper Schmeichel. What did you say?
He was wasting time in the first half and I was like “Come on Kasper, you are better than that!”. I said to him “He was f*****g lucky” or they were f*****g lucky today, that was my word to him. He said we [Brentford] were good especially in the first half, but said they experience similar today where they couldn’t get over the line before.
Just looking at your fixtures, they’re against teams in the bottom three. How important will those three games be at establishing yourselves before winter comes?
I only know one thing – we’re playing Stoke on Wednesday! I actually mean it, I am only focused on Stoke because I want to win that game. Of course, I know we are facing Burnley because that’s on Saturday but I am not thinking about anything else than beating Stoke on Wednesday.
