Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has delivered his verdict on Arsenal this season and made a bold prediction that the Emirates faithful will want to come true.
Pep Guardiola said: “It’s my sixth season here and every season is stronger than the year before. Top managers guiding the clubs. Arsenal is growing, one game a week, and they will be up there. Chelsea of course, Liverpool, United. Many top clubs. But that’s why it’s the best league in the world so be proud to be living these moments in your country. It’s a privilege. “
City sit two points behind Chelsea in the Premier League title race, although Liverpool could leapfrog them with a victory against Manchester United on Sunday. Arteta was humbled by his former boss earlier in the campaign when his side were thrashed 5-0 at the Etihad but in the matches since, the Gunners have improved, currently in the midst of a six game unbeaten run in the top-flight. Mikel Arteta’s men bounced back to top form on Friday brushing Aston Villa aside in a 3-1 victory in north London on Friday night, with Thomas Partey, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Emile Smith Rowe all finding the target. Following their dismal display in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Monday, Mikel Arteta will have wanted to see a reaction from his side and that is exactly what he got. Having worked alongside Guardiola for a number of years at Manchester City, there is an added pressure on the Spaniard to bring an attractive brand of attacking football to the club but his former boss says they are heading in the right direction. He also predicted that the Gunners will be competing at the top of the table come the end of the season.
